After Work

After work
And a day of driving
With stiff groaning turns of wheel
Lift rusty hood of old pickup
Hinged with springs that squeal when raised
Add power steering fluid to low reservoir
Truck built 1968
The same year I graduated high school
Even though older, I have fewer leaks
But more miles

Frank-

I am glad it worked and we figured that out; your brief poem is a lot like you. Here is a format that helps me read it:

After work
And a day of driving
With stiff groaning turns of wheel...

Lift rusty hood of old pickup,
Hinged with springs that squeal when raised.

Add power steering fluid to low reservoir;
Truck built 1968
The same year I graduated high school.

Even though older, I have fewer leaks ...

But more miles.

The reading and conventions format helps me build images sequentially. It also allows me pause to stop and "taste" words along the way.

Anyway, hope it gives you "food" for thought.

Thanks, Suzanne, of my poems the ones I like the best always leave me with mixed feelings. In this case, I wasn't feeling sad about anything when I worote it, but some days, everything turns out to be about mortality.
